Morrissy was born in Dublin in 1957 and has published A Lazy Eye, a collection of short stories, and two novels, Mother of Pearl and The Pretender. She was awarded a Hennessy Award for short fiction in 1984, a Lannan Literary Prize in 1995, and was short-listed for the Whitbread Prize in 1996. She held a New York Public Library Cullman Center Fellowship in 2006. Morrissy’s work-in-progress is The Duchess, a ghosted autobiography of Bella O’Casey, writer and sister of the famed Irish playwright, Sean O’Casey.
